Welcome to a work in progress

This blog is dedicated to the restoration and modification of a Glasflügel Standard Libelle H201B, and a tribute to those who have dared to do the same, and to those who are helping with seeing this dream take flight.

Getting Closer!!

Over this past week, Joseph knocked out the repair cleanup on the horizontal stabilizer..

..... and the fairing.

He was also near to the finished on the canopy frame.

All there is left to cleanup and prime are the ailerons.

This week, I picked up the metal wingtip wheel frames and can start on making the fairing covers for them.

They will be mounted to the winglets after we get the glider assembled and we can see how they will need to be positioned to prevent the ailerons from dragging the runway during the take off roll.

The shop at the airport is geting busy, and Joseph will need to break from the Libelle project over the next 3 weeks. But that will also be about the time the weather will hopefully warm up enough to allow us to apply the paint!

  1. Hi
I just read your weblog in regards of the restoration of the Libelle sailplane. It's was quite a great project and long too. Nice work i'm must say.
Also, if i may, i'm not quite sure about how the tail section work. How the horizontal fit into the open slot of the tail ? Was it just a bolt on back of the horiz spar and 1 on front ? I haven't seen picture of that. If you can post some..
    Thanks

    1. The horizontal stabilizer slide into the opening in the front of the tail. The elevators fit into pins in the vertical stabilizer and the horizontal stabilizer is bolted in place in with a mounted bolt in the front of the horizontal stabilizer. I will try to get photos posted as we get close to finishing the paint job.
